Known among the Goodwill Staffing Services (GSS) staff as one of the most reliable and independent employees on the roster, Gregory Rankin enjoys the variety and flexibility provided through temporary services.
Gregory came to GTS in 2003 after having tried his luck with other staffing agencies. He had worked at a Goodwill retail store several years prior and was aware the organization specialized in helping people with barriers to employment find work. Although he holds an Associates degree and is well educated, Gregory has a history of medical conditions.
Gregory said he found the GTS staff to be more compassionate and helpful than other agencies. “I just felt like another number at other firms,” he stated. “But at Goodwill they make me feel like an actual person—they always make sure I’m comfortable with the positions before placing me.”
Since coming to GTS, Gregory has been placed on numerous assignments and has received letters of recommendation for his work performance. The positive impression he made led to being awarded the GTS Employee of the Quarter title.
Goodwill Staffing Services cares about their clients. Shonna Ratliff, Gregory’s recruiter, looks for assignments close to bus routes and his home knowing he does not have a car. She has even personally provided him with transportation when he was in need..
“Gregory makes my job easy,” Shonna said. “I know I can assign him to a position without worrying whether he’ll show up or not, and if he does miss he always calls to let me know.” .
Gregory said his medical condition continues to have an impact on his employment status, but says the work experience obtained through GTS has helped improve his self-esteem. He currently works at the Texas Department of Information Resources performing data entry and says he enjoys the assignment..
Gregory attributes many of his opportunities and successes to the support he received from the GTS staff. “Goodwill really does live up to their mission of helping people with disabilities [and disadvantages] find employment.”.
