Austin’s Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) 2006 was another fulfilling event this year. Disability Mentoring Day is a national day of recognition in which high school students with disabilities are matched with community employers to explore a variety of careers.
Beth Bailey, youth services mentor program specialist, served on the DMD Steering Committee and helped match students with employers of their choice.
Four of Goodwill’s youth participants, along with 26 other students, participated this year through job shadowing. While visiting local radio stations, animal shelters, the Austin police department, hotels, and the Austin American-Statesman, students enjoyed a valuable look into the world of a variety of work opportunities.
