Goodwill Wins Funding for Responsible Fatherhood Services

Our Workforce Development Services Division has announced new funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Family Assistance for a program promoting responsible fatherhood. The funding is renewable for five years depending on funding availability and program performance. Over 120 fathers will be served per year.

Here is an overview of the services to be provided:

  • Goodwill will promote the economic stability of fathers and families in Travis County by engaging fathers in job search, job training, job retention, and job enhancement activities. Fathers will learn how to effectively job search, present themselves to employers, interview successfully and follow up appropriately with employers.
  • Once employment is secured, Goodwill employment specialists will work with each individual to address any obstacles that may arise, such as transportation or child care difficulties. A knowledge of employer expectations will also be developed, and this information and support will be used to maximize job retention. Using Goodwill’s successful workforce development model, low-income fathers with barriers to employment, such as limited skill levels or education, will be assisted with securing steady, gainful employment in the community.
  • Fathers will also develop the skills necessary to manage the finances of the household and budget for expenses, which will result in increased economic stability of the family and healthier marriages.
