Volunteers are the foundation of our organization. Through our “Do Good” volunteer program, we offer fun, hands-on opportunities to get involved and make a meaningful impact in the community. We assess your interests and match your strengths to existing projects. Whether you are interested in an internship, helping on a special event, getting involved in ongoing projects or looking for group activities to help build team dynamics, Goodwill has much to offer.

Goodwill’s
GreenWorks Project

Goodwill is looking for volunteers to participate in the de-manufacturing of donated computers that will be resold or recycled.

Dates and times are flexible, and groups as small as 10 and as large as 40 are welcome. Donating your time as a volunteer will directly benefit the environment by helping divert thousands of tons of electronic waste from local landfills. In 2006, Goodwill’s Environmental Business Services processed 250 tons of “e-waste” per month.

To volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@austingoodwill.org or

Volunteer Opportunities:

Internships: Goodwill offers internships where individuals can learn new skills, and fine-tune existing ones while learning more about our mission and organization. We have internship opportunities available in our many departments: Workforce Development, Executive Administration, Marketing and Retail.

Community Service Restitution Volunteers: With Goodwill, you can complete court-appointed hours while gaining retail experience and contributing to your community. Your time will be spent working in the production area of a retail store. Duties, include receiving and sorting donations, collecting and organizing merchandise, performing quality control, and representing Goodwill through customer service.

With 23 retail locations around Austin, you will be able to volunteer at the most convenient location for you. Our employees welcome your support! CSR volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and from either Williamson or Travis counties. Our stores do not accept CSR volunteers from other counties, but you are welcome to call the store and ask.

If you have more than 100 hours to complete, you must attend orientation which is held weekly.

Call 637.7161 and leave a detailed message to schedule orientation

Ongoing Positions: Goodwill offers long-term projects in various areas of our organization. Our Computer Museum and Computer Works facility are two locations where we could always use assistance. We have positions as Vintage Hunting Helpers to help track down vintage threads and name brand clothes for our boutique racks.

  • Computer Museum Volunteers:
The Goodwill Museum has an immediate need for volunteers in all positions: docents, assistant curators, technicians, display designers, educators, archivists, researchers, and grant writers. The museum has been in existence since 2005 and has over 500 vintage computers that need to be researched, catalogued and placed in inventory. We are acquiring vintage systems faster than we can process them! We also have a huge inventory of classic gaming consoles that also need to be investigated and organized. We have a need for display designers who can take the inanimate and make it interactive. We have a need for educators who can develop programs for disadvantage youth and show the importance of technology in history. We have a need for Technicians who can restore these vintage systems to their original functionality. This is a great opportunity to be part of a truly unique Austin experience and to have input on the future direction of a growing organization. Even if you don’t have the time to donate come and check out the museum; it’s a fun place to be. Please email me if you are interested and also include a resume (not required).

Group Activities: Goodwill is one of the few organizations in the Austin area able to handle groups up to 50 for volunteer projects. Whether small or large, our GreenWorks program can accommodate your group, and is ideal for a teambuilding exercise. Volunteers participate in the de-manufacturing process of donated computer systems that will be resold or recycled. Your afternoon of service will include a tour of the Goodwill Community Center, training and practice in de-manufacturing, and a visit to Goodwill’s Computer Museum. Donating your time as a volunteer will directly benefit the environment by helping Goodwill ensure responsible management and recycling of donated systems. Each month, Goodwill's Environmental Business Services processes 250 tons of e-waste for either resale or recycle - diverting these end-of-life systems from landfills. Revenue generated from Goodwill’s recycling efforts support job services and programs that connect Central Texans to meaningful employment. Please call or email to set up an appointment.
