Basil struggled throughout his youth with a learning disability. He received special education services and later faced difficulties in the work environment. He struggled in his previous jobs, but after help from his Goodwill case manager and various Goodwill programs he has been successfully employed.
Basil was referred to Goodwill from the Department of Assistance and Rehabilitation Services (DARS). He began by participating in the Goodwill WIA Youth Services, funded by Workforce Solutions-Capital Area.
He received assistance from Employment Specialists at Goodwill with job searching skills, interviewing skills, and resume skills. Basil and his Placement Specialist worked together to explore employment opportunities throughout 2009, and in July, they found a position that looked very promising at a local nonprofit organization.
Basil took the skills he had learned at Goodwill and put them to good use in his interview with Relief Enterprises. Following a successful interview, Basil obtained a permanent position as a custodial worker. He has recently completed 90 days of successful employment and is continuing to develop his employment skills through experience.
