A determined young mother eager to prepare for her future career, Donna Zavala enrolled into Goodwill’s WIA Youth Services Program, funded by Workforce Solutions—Capital Area, in July 2006. Hoping to continue her education and explore future careers, Donna worked together with her Goodwill Case Manager to make her dream become a reality.
Donna was quickly accepted into Allied Health Careers, where she decided to train as a dental assistant. Goodwill was able to help as she continued her track to a future career by assisting her with tuition and scrubs for school as well as tutoring and assisting with locating a child care provider in the community.
After completing her training with Allied Health Careers, she found and obtained an internship with a dental office, where she was able to gain valuable practice in the area she was trained.
Currently, Donna is working as a Teaching Assistant Intern for Goodwill’s “Viva Verde, Live Green” Program, which is designed to help youth gain internships with employers in the community and is funded by Workforce Solutions—Capital Area. Through her internship, Donna has discovered a passion for working with people. Many of the staff who work with her on a daily basis have reported her success as an employee and commend her great work! After her internship is completed, Donna plans obtain employment elsewhere and to research opportunities in the Human Services field.
