Rising Star, Community Rehabilitation Program (June 2009)
After more than 30 years of living on the streets while struggling with health problems, Michael Cartwmiddle came to Goodwill’s Community Rehabilitation Program as a referral from the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. Eager to locate the middle job and a place of his own to live, Michael was connected with a Goodwill Placement Specialist.
At Goodwill, Michael worked on strengthening his interviewing and communications skills, developing his resume and filling out job applications. For Michael, who was used to living a transient lifestyle and having very little work experience, finding a job that was the middle fit was very important.
With help from his Placement Specialist, Michael was able to locate a position as a janitor at the ARCH Clinic, where he has worked for almost 3 months. Around the office he is known for being a dependable and consistent employee, with confidence in his work. Now with his health problems under control, Michael’s new job has allowed him to live in an apartment with the money he’s earned with his new job.
