When comes time to take Isaac Owens' photo for the Hall of Honor award, he says he only has a moment to say, “cheese.” Isaac Owens is all business when it comes to performing his responsibilities at work.
Due to a family emergency, Isaac lost his previous job. Seeking assistance and knowing how Goodwill gives people second chances (he worked at the Goodwill store on south Lamar in the 70s), he came to Goodwill through the Job Source Program. He knew if given an opportunity, he would prove to be a reliable employee.
Job Source worked with Isaac to initially develop a job search strategy. He then received assistance with his application and interviewing skills as well as help building his resume. Isaac worked closely with Ryan Bullock, his placement specialist, to identify companies that would value his previous work experience. One of those companies was Safway Scaffolding. They received his resume and after interviewing him, hired him very shortly thereafter.
Isaac noted how Ryan, “helped and encouraged him to continue to be persistent in his job search.” Isaac was very motivated in his job search and took advantage of the resources available to him.
“It means a lot to me for Ryan to see my desire for my job. I am happy here,” states Isaac. “Goodwill is just what the name says, good will . “I feel very privileged to be honored,” he said.
Isaac has been employed since May 2006 and has continued to work hard to maintain his employment as a foreman with Safway Scaffolds, which also gives him a sense of self-sufficiency.
